Purpose:
To evaluate early results of topography-guided Photorefractive Keratectomy (TGPRK) for Post-LASIK ectasia with Schwind Amaris.
Setting:
Pacific Laser Eye Centre, Vancouver, BC, Canada
Methods:
Retrospective series. Evaluate outcome of post-LASIK ectasia eyes underwent treatment with Schwind Amaris Excimer laser. Preoperatively and post-operative uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA), corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), manifest refraction (MR) and topographic cylinder were analyzed. Eyes with at least 12 months of follow-up were included.
Results:
22 eyes of post-LASIK ectasia underwent treatment with 11 had sufficient data at 12 months for analysis.
7 of 11 (64%) showed UCVA ≥20/40 post-operatively. 4 (36%) had improved CDVA and
3 eyes (27%) gained two or more lines (p=0.04). No patient showed progression.
Mean astigmatism was reduced from 2.77±1.63D to 0.95±1.05D (p=0.0009).
Mean spherical equivalent was improved from -0.80±1.23D to 0.00±1.13D (p=0.05).
Conclusions:
Early results of TG-PRK with Schwind Amaris show efficacy and safety as treatment for eyes with post-LASIK ectasia. More than 60% had UCVA 20/40 or better post-operatively. More than one quarter had CDVA improved two or more lines. This study demonstrates an alternative treatment for post-LASIK ectasia with contact lens intolerance.
