Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the ability of the Precizon Presbyopic Multifocal Intraocular Lens (MIOL; Ophtec, Groningen, The Netherlands) to provide near, intermediate and distance vision in patients undergoing cataract extraction / clear lens extraction (CLE) in a multicenter clinical trial.
Setting:
European multicenter study
Methods:
Prospective, open label, single-arm, multicenter clinical trial. The main outcome parameters were LogMAR corrected/uncorrected visual acuity scores at distance (uncorrected distance visual acuity, UDVA 4 m), intermediate (uncorrected intermediate visual acuity, UIVA 80 cm) and near (uncorrected near visual acuity, UNVA 40 cm), manifest refraction spherical equivalent (MRSE) and defocus curve. Lenses were available in powers ranging from +10.0 D to +30.0 D in 0.5 D increments, with add-on power of +2.75 D.
Results:
Interim results: bilateral implantation of the MIOL in 11 patients. Mean uncorrected VA scores were UDVA 0.01 ± 0.09, UIVA 0.13 ± 0.16, and UNVA 0.11 ± 0.13. Distance corrected VA scores were CDVA -0.01 ± 0.07, DCIVA 0.13 ± 0.09 and DCNVA 0.09 ± 0.09. CNVA was 0.04 ± 0.07. The mean spherical equivalent was -0.20 ± 0.46. The mean sphere was -0.06 ± 0.41 and the mean refractive cylinder was -0.27 ± 0.5. The defocus curve showed two peaks (~0.0 LogMAR) at distance and 50 cm (defocus -2.0) with a minor drop for intermediate vision.
Conclusions:
Bilateral Precizon Presbyopic MIOL implantation effectively provides presbyopic patients with satisfying uncorrected near, intermediate and distance visual acuity.
