Abstract Details
Purpose:
Evaluation of visual function after bilateral cataract surgery and implantation diffractive extended range of vision ( EROV ) intraocular lenses Tecnis Symfony in micromonovision configuration
Setting:
Visum Clinic, Rzeszow, Poland
Methods:
Twenty patients ( 40 eyes ) underwent bilateral cataract surgery with implantation Tecnis Symfony intraocular lenses. Power of the IOL was calculated for emmetropia in one eye and for small myopia (-0.5 ± -0.75D) in the second eye. Several visual parameters was evaluated 1,3 and 6 months postop, binocular UCDVA, BCDVA, UCIVA, UCNVA, best reading distance (BRD), contrast sensitivity in photopic and mesopic conditions, steroacuity, independence from glasses, visual adverse symptoms, patient’s satisfaction, defocus curve and postoperative complications
Results:
There were achieved excellent results within the first month after surgery for far, intermediate and near distances, mean values 0,995, 0,89, 0,87 in decimal scale. Best reading distance was 41cm , 80 % trated patients became totally independent from having to wear glasses. None of the patients complained of adverse visual effects and were very satisfied with the outcome of the surgery. Contrast sensivity measured in photopic and mesopic conditions were within the normal age limits, steroacuity test avaraged 46 seconds of arc. Defocus curve was linear between the far and near distances. No negative postsurgical effects were observed
Conclusions:
Cataract surgery with implantation of intraocular lenses with extended range of vision in micromonovision configuration brought patients excellent improvement of visual function and increased satisfaction with the achieved vision for all distances. Micromonovision method allowed patients to have high percent of independence from having to wear glasses. Very good quality of vision achieved from the first month after surgery.
