Purpose:

To report early experience with a new extended range of vision IOL.

Setting:

Eintal Eye Center and Kaplan Medical Center

Methods:

Consecutive cases of patients, who underwent cataract extraction with implantation of the extended range of vision IOL with manifest refraction at least 1 month postoperative were reviewed.

Results:

Forty four eyes of 28 patients were included. Eighteen eyes were implanted with a toric model. Ocular pathologies included: Amblyopia (3), high myopia (7), high hyperopia (3), lamellar macular hole (1), ERM (2), Dry AMD (3), severe dry eye (3). One month after the surgery the average spherical equivalent was found to be: -0.27+0.21 D, range +0.13-(-0.75); the average UCDVA was found to be 6/8+2.3, range 6/5-6/15; UCIVA was found to be 6/8.4+2.66, range 6/4.8-6/15, UCNVA of J3 or better was fond in 20/38 (53%) of the eyes. Four patients reported early dysphotopsia which resolved within a month or with the second eye operation.

Conclusions:

The extended range of vision IOL demonstrated excellent distance and intermediate uncorrected visual results with good near uncorrected visual results, and minimal side effect, in a non-selective population.
