Purpose:
To evaluate the safety and efficacy of the Topography-guided FemtoLASIK technology in eyes with myopic astigmatism
Setting:
The S. Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery State Institution, Russia
Methods:
We observed 58 patients (58 eyes) with simple or compound myopic astigmatim in pre- and post-keratorefractive surgery, out of which 28 eyes were operated by the Topography-guided ablation algorithm (T-CAT group), 30 eyes by the Wavefront-Optimized ablation profile (WFO group). All flaps were created using by the FS200 femtosecond laser and all eyes were operated by the EX500 excimer laser (WaveLight Refractive Suite, Alcon). The cylindrical component was ≥2.0 D in all cases. Manifest refraction, visual outcomes, predictability and vector analysis of changes in refractive astigmatism were analyzed preoperatively and 1, 3, 6, 12 months postoperatively
Results:
Postoperatively the mean sphere decreased in the T-CAT group from -2.82±2.46D to -0.31±0.14D, in the WFO group from -3.11±2.72D to -0.43±0.18D. The average value of the refractive cylinder also significantly decreased from -3.82±0.16D to -0.52±0.1D in the T-CAT group, from -3.76±0.19D to -0.98±0.22D in the WFO group (р<0.05). The postoperative UDVA was 0.93±0.12 in the T-CAT group and 0.82±0.15 in the WFO group. The safety index was 1.22 in the t-CAT group and 1.07 in the WFO group. The postoperatively UDVA was higher than the preoperatively CDVA in the 71.4% after the Topography-guided and in the 36.7% after WFO FemtoLASIK
Conclusions:
The Topography-guided FemtoLASIK is effective, safe and predictable procedure for the correction of myopic astigmatism
