Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the efficacy and safety of different application times of mitomycin C (MMC) after photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) for moderate.
Setting:
Private Refractive center, Sohag ,Egypt
Methods:
34 eyes of 17 patients were enrolled in this prospective study .All eyes were operated by PRK followed by application of 0.02%MMC for 30 seconds in one eye group A (17 eyes) and for 60 seconds in the second eye group B(17 eyes) ,then washed with normal saline .All eyes were examined for corneal haze on days 1,3 and 7. Also examined on 1,3 and 6 months.
Results:
The mean spherical equivalent refraction was−5.30 ± 1.14 D in group A and −5.1 ± 1.32 D in group B preoperatively. At 6 months postoperative the mean spherical equivalent refraction was –0.19 ± 0.33D in group A and –0.14 ± 0.21D in group B. All eyes had uncorrected visual acuity of 6/12or better by 6 months of surgery. One eye developed haze grade 1 in group A at 6 month.
Conclusions:
MMC reduced haze formation with no significant difference according to the time of application to the stroma. No adverse effects occurred.
