Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate the factors affecting patient’s dissatisfaction after trifocal IOL implantation.

Setting:

VeniVidi Eye Hospital - Istanbul

Methods:

In this retrospective study, 162 eyes of 81 patients who had bilateral trifocal IOL implantation between September 2017 to February 2018 were analyzed. Main dissatisfaction of the patients were photic phenomena and blurred vision which were seen in 34 eyes (21%). Pre-and post-operative refractive factors, lambda angle and topographic parameters were evaluated and their influence on the outcomes were analyzed.

Results:

There were 43 (52%) females and 38 (48%) males. The mean age of the patients were 57,65 years. The mean post-operative spherical and cylindrical refractive errors, lambda angle, pre-operative sim K, and corneal astigmatism of the patients were 0.20 D and -1.05 D, 0.63 mm, 43.58 D, 1.56 D respectively. The mean postoperative uncorrected distant and near vision acuities were 0.0043 and 0.39 logMAR respectively. Postoperative cylindrical refractive error was found to be a risk factor for blurred vision and lambda angle more than 0.60 mm was found to be a risk factor for photic phenomena (p1,2<0.005)

Conclusions:

Overall trifocal IOLs provided very satisfactory near and distant vision acuities. Pre-operative lambda angle should be checked and post-operative emmetropia should be targeted to decrease dissatisfaction after operation.
