Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate complications, advantages and clinical outcomes of femtoassisted phacoemulsification.

Setting:

Eye Center “East Sight Recover“, FMBA, Moscow, Russia.

Methods:

This study includes the results of femtoassisted phacoemulsification of 90 cases with cataract from 1-4+ density with 1-3 months of follow-up. All procedures were performed with Femtolaser Victus TPV and Infinity or Stellaris phacomachine. IOL monofocal, multifocals and toric were used. Clinical outcomes were evaluated in terms of % of ultrasound that were used during fragments elimination, time of the procedure, also safety and predictability of the procedure. Predictability of post-operation target refraction was analyzed.

Results:

In all cases with pupillar >4mm we received round capsulorhexis, also with cataract subluxation (6 cases with capsular ring suturing), pseudoexfoliative syndrome and combined procedure in glaucoma patients (7 cases). Nucleus fragmentation 4 - 8 pieces we received in cataracts 1 - 4+ density. Fragmentation of the intumescent cataract was not possible. Time of the intraocular surgery was less in all cases. The power of ultrasound that were used was less on 15 - 38% in comparison with standard procedures. Target refraction (<0,5D) was achieved in 80% of cases, in all multifocals (11 cases post-op refraction 0 - 0,5 D).

Conclusions:

Femtosecond laser Victus provides for phacoemulsification accuracy, speed, flexibility, security. Excellent results with post-op refraction we explain with correct position of IOL in the capsular bag which was provided by the round central rhexis.
