Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the visual outcome of Implantable Phakic Contact lens (IPCL) implantation for correcting high myopia.
Setting:
Almashreq Eye Center, Cairo-EGYPT
Methods:
Thirty eyes of 15 patients underwent surgery for correction of high myopia using IPCL (Care Group-India) with a central hole (V2.0). Visual acuity, spherical equivalent, and intraocular pressure were evaluated 6-months postoperatively. Anterior chamber volume (ACV), anterior chamber depth (ACD) & anterior chamber angle width (ACAW) were measured using pentacam imaging.
Results:
At 6-months, the spherical equivalent refraction decreased from preoperative −14.33 ± 0.76 D to −0.23 ± 0.12 D, all cases were within ±1.00 D of the intended correction. Best Corrected visual acuity (BCVA) remained unchanged in 13% of the eyes, 13% gained one line& 74% gained two or more lines of BCVA. The ACV, ACD, and ACAW, respectively, decreased from 192.86 ± 3.11 mm3, 3.15 ± 0.05 mm, and 37.92 ± 1.03 degree to 132.53 ± 2.06 mm3, 3.03 ± 0.06 mm, and 24.68 ± 0.92 degree (, resp.). Changes in intraocular pressure values between preoperative & 6-months postoperatively were statistically insignificant
Conclusions:
Implantation of IPCL V2 is a safe, effective, and predictable procedure for correcting high myopia. Most cases gained one or more lines of BCVA. Reduction of anterior chamber space after surgery did not induce intraocular pressure increase during 6-months follow-up.
