Abstract Details

Purpose:

To compare the topographic and topometric parameters, thickness profile, and enhanced elevation maps of thin non-keratoconic, subclinical keratoconic, and mild keratoconic corneasĀ  with Scheimpflug corneal tomography

Setting:

The study is made in Ophtalmology department at HASSAN II university hospital, Fez. Morocco SIDI MOHAMED BEN ABDELLAH university Fez Morocco

Methods:

In this cross-sectional study, we evaluated 30 patients who visited the hospital for preoperative assessment refractive surgery and we found healthy eyes with minimal pachymetry less than 500 microns (group 1), compared to 30 patients followed for subclinical keratoconus (group 2) and 30 patients with mild keratoconic corneas (group 3). The study is based on the comparison of topographic, topometric, pachymetric and enhanced Belin / ambrosio elevation maps, The statistical analysis is done by SPSS software

Results:

The mean age of all patients is 23,6 years with no significant difference between the 3 groups (p=0,587). Elevations of the anterior and posterior cornea (p <0.001), pachymetric progression indice, percentage increase in corneal thickness, topographic indices of keratoconus detection (p <0.001), deviation value mean (p <0.001), as well as topometric indices were statistically significantly higher in keratoconus cases compared to normal fine corneas. However, anterior elevation (p<0,001), difference of maximum anterior elevation above/below the best-fit sphere (p<0,001), D value (p<0,01), posterior elevation (p<0,01) were statistically significantly to differentiate subclinical keratoconus with normal fine cornea

Conclusions:

These results guide the selection of thin normal cornea for refractive surgery and may have important implications for preventing postoperative ectasia
