Abstract Details

Purpose:

Extension of indications for the use of Phakic IOLs in patients with high myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism. And in cases with different cornea pathology, like pellucid degeneration, ceratoconus. In patients after previous LASIK.

Setting:

We have 5 clinical cases, 10 eyes, when we use Phakic IOLs for correction of different types of ametropia. 2 eyes - high myopia with astigmatism (-17/-15) 2 eyes - high hypermetropia (+7) 2 eyes - pellucid degeneration with high cornea astigmatism 2 eyes - keratoconus 2 eyes - low myopia after previous LASIK

Methods:

In all cases were used Phakic IOLS - IPCL/IPCL Toric. Implantation were made through 2.2 mm cornea incision. At preoperating period, all patients were made: ARK, Tonometry, Ceratotopography (Oculyzer/Topolayzer), OCT Cornea with epithelium Map, Optical Biometry (AL/ACD/LT), Endothelial microscopy. Main criteria for Phakic IOL implantation, was ACD from endothelium - more than 2.8 mm, and a number of endothelial cells - more than 2 500.

Results:

In all cases was obtained high visual acuity. All IOLs were in properly position (controlled by OCT and Optical Biometric). Endothelial cell loss after implantation was from 2 to 5%.

Conclusions:

Phakic IOLs is a good alternative to Laser vision correction, and refractive lens exchange in young patients. Phacik IOLs can be used in correction of non-standard ametropias, with cornea pathology.
