Abstract Details
Purpose:
to describe the epidemiological and clinical aspects of this pathology and also therapeutic modalities in our context
Setting:
Adult ophthalmology departement
August 20 th 1953 hospital
University Hospital Ibn Rochd
Faculty of madecine
Hassan II University Casablanca Morocco
Methods:
It's a retrospective study concerning 61 cases of symblepharons collected in our hospital structure between January 2007 and October 2018
Results:
It's about 61 eyes with symblepharons including 10 cases of bilateral form. The average age was 41.6 years. The sex ratio H / F was 1.3. The causes were ocular burns in 24 cases (39.3%). 21.3% complicated eye surgery. The associated lesions were corneal dystrophy in 12 cases (19.3%),17 cases of tear film instability ( 27.8%) and 3 cases of pterygium (4.9%).
The treatment involved the removal and dissection of contralateral conjunctival graft adhesions or oral mucosa. We conducted an average follow-up of 24 months. The results were good in 89.5% of the cases.
Conclusions:
Eye burns are a major cause of symblepharon in our context. A preventive attitude seems, therefore, to be advisable to reduce the incidence of this affection. Our surgical results are satisfactory. Nevertheless, the use of amniotic membrane graft will facilitate and improve the management.
