Abstract Details
Purpose:
The purpose of our study is to report the clinical, therapeutic and evolutionary aspects of children affected by ocular rosacea.
Setting:
Ophtalmology department of Mohamed VI university hospital Marrakesh Morocco
Methods:
We conducted a prospective study on 11 children (22 eyes) followed for ocular rosacea within a period of 12months (from July 2018 to July 2019).
Results:
The average age of our children was 6.5 years. The sex ration was 0.66.
The main clinical signs were: chronic blepharitis (100%), superficial punctate keratitis (60%), catarrhal infiltrates (40%), chalazions (40%) Phlyctenular keratoconjunctivitis (20%) ) and limbal neovascularization (20%). Cutaneous involvement appeared within the follow-up in 2 cases. The medical treatment consisted in palpebral hygiene measures associated to topical azythromycin. Systemic macrolides were initiated in 3 cases and only 1 case was treated with metronidazole because of macrolide digestive intolerance. Local corticosteroids were instituted from in 3 cases. The majority of our children have evolved well with stabilization of lesions.
Conclusions:
Ocular rosacea is often misdiagnosed, especially in children, because of its non-specific presentation, which explains the delayed diagnosis and bad management.
