Purpose:
Herpes infection is very common: 80% of adults carry circulating antibodies. The corneal involvement is serious. It is classified into epithelial, stromal, endothelial and neurotrophic forms. Multifocal epithelial forms have been described in contact lens wearers
Setting:
Pediatric ophthalmology department, 20 August Hospital, Ibn Rochd University Hospital Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy-Hassan II University Casablanca
Methods:
we report a case of a 24-year-old woman wearing soft cosmetic lenses, with no particular pathological history, the patient consulted in the emergency department for a painful red right eye with reduced visual acuity
Results:
A painful red right eye with reduced visual acuity, tearing and photophobia evolving since 5 days before admission. we notice a self-medication with local steroids for 3 days, leading to a worsening of symptoms.The slit lamp examination shows: reduced VA at 6/10, conjunctival hyperemia, multiple dendritic ulcers stained with fluorescein, no anterior chamber reaction, normalĀ intraocular pressure, normal fundus exam; Otherwise the left eye exam was normal. The patient was treated by oral valaciclovir, ciprofloxacin, artificial tears, a close control every 48 hours was ensured, a good improvement was marked after 10 days.
Conclusions:
Ocular herpes is a very common pathology, especially in its recurrent form. primary infection often goes unnoticed, being mostly asymptomatic. The recent development of an effective therapeutic arsenal requires a semiological knowledge of the disease in order to correctly identify the local / general antiviral treatment and to associate an appropriate anti-inflammatory treatment in the immunological component. the importance of sensitization of contact lens wearers on good hygiene, and the emergency of medical consultation
