When thinking clinically about a keratoconus outside refractive surgery review?

Abstract Details
Purpose:
Keratoconus is a progressive, non-inflammatory corneal ectasia that can lead to severe impairment of vision. Keratoconus is one of the most common indications for keratoplasty. most commonly present during adolescence, an early diagnosis provide a better management. Outside a review of preoperative refractive surgery ; how and when suspect clinically a keratoconus ?
Setting:
pediatric ophthalmology department, 20 August Hospital, Ibn Rochd University Hospital Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy-Hassan II University Casablanca
Methods:
we report and describe (pictures and videos) the clinical findings of keratoconus: symtoms, external signs, Slit lamp findings, retroilumination signs, Placido disc sign, refraction abnormaties, Others signs.
Results:
Symptoms : age (10-20); blurred vision distorted; increased sensibility of light and glare, eye redness or swelling
In later stages, keratoconus symptoms often include: more blurry and distorted vision, increased nearsightedness or astigmatism, new eyeglass prescriptions often, sudden painful diminution of vision(acute hydrops)
External signs : munsen sign, rizzutti sign
Slit lamp findings : corneal stromal thinning, vogt’stria, Fleischer ring, corneal scarring, acute hydrops
Retroillumination signs : Oil droplet sign, scissoring reflex
Placido disc sign, refraction abnormaties
Others findings like allergic conjonctivitis, retinitis pigmentosa, congenital cataract, marfan sydrom, turner syndrome, crouzon sydrome, Down sydrome...
Conclusions:
The early diagnosis of keratoconus remains a challenge for the ophthalmologist, the better knowledge of early clinical signs provide an early diagnosis and a good management
