Abstract Details
Purpose:
To report two cases of infectious keratitis associated with the use of daily disposable soft contact lenses.
Setting:
U The two patients were seen initially in the emergency department, then admitted in our ophthalmology departement in university hospital, respectively for 9 days for the first patient and 15 days for the second, in October 2018 and January 2019
Methods:
Two case reports of individuals who developed infectious keratitis related to pseudomonas aeruginosa while wearing daily disposable soft contact lenses are presented.
Results:
A 31-year-old woman who reported compliant and infrequent use of daily silicone hydrogel contact lenses presented with rapid-onset.The infection responded to fortified antibiotics 10 days ,and After therapy a stable situation with corrected visual acuity of 2/10was attained after 6 weeks.
A 29-year-old woman who had been using conventional soft contact lenses, before switching to daily disposable Silicone hydrogel contact lenses, for 12 to 14 hours daily wearing, developed a severe keratitis in her left eye after 2 months of wearing. The evolution was marked by the extension of the abscess and a corneal perforation despite the treatment.
Conclusions:
Previous reports on Pseudomonas aeruginosa-associated keratitis in soft contact lens wearers demonstrate corneal problems due to extended wear or unsuccessful contact lens cleaning.Hygienic rules should be strictly followed by patients and staff using soft or hard contact lenses for visual correction or for therapeutic reasons.
