Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the efficacy and safety of the accelerated transepithelial Avedro KXL Crosslinking technique with 0.025% corneal riboflavin impregnation
Setting:
Hospital La Fe Valencia
Methods:
The technique of accelerated transepithelial Crosslinking using the Avedro KXL was performed in 40 eyes of 40 patients diagnosed with progressive keratoconus (I-III Amsler Classification). Riboflavin was administered by impregnation for 4 minutes and then processed UVA radiation (for 10 minutes (UV energy: 45 mW / cm2, Total energy: 7.20 J / cm2, pulsed treatment mode)
Results:
A decrease in corneal astigmatism from 3.50 D to 2.50 D was observed. The keratometric values decreased from 47.05 to 42.50 D and the Best Corrected Visual Acuity improved from 0.80 to 0.43 (LogMAR). The epithelial map and the amount of keratinocytes remained stable.
Conclusions:
We consider the treatment using the Avedro KXL transepithelial accelerated Crosslinking technique, an effective and safe technique in the management of corneal ectasias. With this method, the duration of the procedure is reduced.
