Abstract Details
Purpose:
To investigate the efficacy of autologous serum eyedrops for the treatment of neurotrophic keratitis
Setting:
Prospective non comparative case series.
Eleven eyes of 11 patients with neurotrophic keratitis who were refractory to conventional treatment.(between 2016-2019)
Methods:
We report 11 neurotrophic keratitis cases were obsereved over a period of 3 years between september 2016 and september 2019. All patients underwent a complete ophthalmic examination. The patients with neurotrophic keraitis were treated with autologous serum eye drops 10 to 12 times a day. Ophthalmic examinations including best-corrected visual acuity (VA) measurement, tear film evaluation, corneal sensitivity test, corneal fluorescein staining, and anterior segment photography was performed before and after the treatment
Results:
The epithelial disorders healed completely in 9 eyes within 18 to 32 days , with a decrease in corneal scarring.. four eyes attained normal corneal sensitivity with treatment. The BCVA improved by >2 Landolt lines with70% of the eyes.in 2 patients we underwent an amniotic membrane grafting.
Conclusions:
According to theĀ literature and to our study results, autologous serum is a valid medical approach for the treatment of Neurotrophic keratitis.
