Abstract Details
Purpose:
To analyze the distribution and characteristics of corneal astigmatism of middle-aged and elderly cataract patients in 18 aier eye hospitals in China in recent 3 years.
Setting:
Cataract is the first blinding eye disease in the world.Corneal astigmatism is one of the important factors leading to poor postoperative vision in cataract patients.
Methods:
a multicenter retrospective study was conducted. From July 2015 to October 2018, eye biological parameters of 143,889 cataract patients were collected and analyzed in 18 aier eye hospitals across the country. Monocular data of each patient were included in the study, including 84,319 females (58.6%) and 58,570 males (41.4%), with an average age of 70.67±10.16(years old).
Results:
39.9% of the patients had astigmatism greater than 1D. The average astigmatism of cornea decreases first and then increases with the increase of age. The inflection point of the trend is about 65 years old, and the average astigmatism of cornea after 65 years old increases at the rate of 0.18d every 10 years. At the same time, with the increase of age, the proportion of with-the-rule astigmatism decreases, and the proportion of against-the-rule astigmatism increases.. It is speculated that 65 May be the inflection point of the change of axial proportion of astigmatism.
Conclusions:
our study revealed the distribution and characteristics of corneal astigmatism in 140,000 middle-aged and elderly cataract patients in China. It includes the proportion of astigmatism degree, the relationship between astigmatism and age, and the axial distribution and trend of astigmatism.
