Abstract Details
Purpose:
To assess inter-eye differences of glaucoma diagnosis, intraocular pressure (IOP) and the number of glaucoma medication in patients with intraocular lens dislocation.
Setting:
This study was performed at the Department of Ophthalmology of the Hospital of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, Kaunas, Lithuania.
Methods:
75 patients were prospectively included in our study. The inclusion criteria were spontaneous in-the-bag IOL dislocation, but visible in the pupillary area, more than 6 months after standard cataract surgery. Eyes presenting with IOL dislocation (case group) were compared with fellow eyes (control group). Glaucoma diagnosis, IOP and the number of glaucoma medications were evaluated. The statistical analysis was performed using IBM SPSS v. 24.0 software.
Results:
diagnosis of glaucoma (n = 58, 59.2%) when compared with a fellow eye (n = 40, 40.8%) (P = 0.003). Furthermore, eyes with IOL dislocation have significantly higher median IOP (19.0 (12 – 41) mmHg vs. 15.0 (10 – 24) mmHg, P < 0.001) as well as the higher median number of glaucoma medications (2.0 (0 – 4) vs. 0.5 (0 – 4), P = 0.001). In the eyes with IOL dislocation, prior trabeculectomy was more frequently performed than in the contralateral eyes (n = 9, 11.3% vs. n = 2, 2.5%, P = 0.029).
Conclusions:
In patients, the eye presenting with IOL dislocation was more likely than its fellow eye to have a diagnosis of glaucoma, higher IOP as well as higher antiglaucoma medication number.
