Abstract Details
Purpose:
To show that astigmatic correction of small cylinders during cataract surgery is possible using low toric IOL’s and personalized incision placement
Setting:
Berlin Eye Research Institute, Berlin, Germany
Methods:
Preoperative the placement of a personalized incision and the calculation of a low toric IOL (PerfecTor, Hanita) was performed using a SMART-Calculator (Eyesight & Vision GmbH, Germany). Eyes with low preoperative astigmatisms <1.5 diopter undergoing cataract surgery were included. Manifest refraction was evaluated 6 weeks postoperatively
Results:
19 eyes with a mean preoperative astigmatism of -1.20±0.34D were included. The mean postoperative astigmatism was -0.55±0.4D. Reduction of the preoperative astigmatism was achieved in all eyes. Mean UCVA and CDVA were 0.69 and 0.95 respectively
Conclusions:
The presented approach allows effective astigmatism reduction for small preoperative cylinders, thus making cataract surgery refractive even for small cylinders <1,5dpt
