Abstract Details
Purpose:
to assess anterior segment parameters in patients presenting exfoliation syndrome
Setting:
20 August hospital, Ibn Rochd University hospital, Casablanca, Morocco
Methods:
A cross-sectional study was conducted in adult ophthalmology department between
April 1
st, 2019 and June 1
st, 2019 including all patients scheduled for cataract surgery.
Patients with other ocular anomalies or complications (glaucoma ...) were excluded,
anterior segment parameters were studied using schiempflug topography, those
parameters were compared between patients with exfoliation syndrome and the
others.
Results:
221 patients were included, 38 patients had exfoliation syndrome, there was no
significant difference between the two groups regarding demographic variables,
patients with exfoliation syndrome had significantly thinner corneas and steeper
curvature (p < 0.05), iridocorneal angle degree, anterior chamber volume and depth
were not significantly different between the two groups.
Conclusions:
Exfoliation syndrome appears to be associated with steeper curvature and thinner
corneas which can lead to overestimation of intraocular pressure.
