Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate anterior capsulorhexis opening contraction by measuring capsulorhexis area at 1st day and after 1 month among patients who underwent cataract plus epiretinal membrane (ERM) peeling surgery.
Setting:
PSCUH Department of Ophthalmology between June 15, 2018 and September 5, 2018.
Methods:
Prospective study included 13 eyes of 13 patients who underwent ERM peeling surgery with intravitreal gas injection plus phacoemulsification with IOL implantation. Photo documentation of the anterior parts was performed at 1st day and after 1 month. Postoperative actual capsulorhexis area was measured and analyzed.
Results:
The age of patients ranged from 55 to 77 years. The mean age of patients standard deviation (SD) was 64.4 ± 5.6 [95% confidence interval (CI) = 61.0 – 67.8] years. The mean capsulorhexis area at 1st day was 18.67 ± 1.25 [17.92 – 19.42] mm2. The mean capsulorhexis area after 1 month was 15.75 ± 1.99 [14.55 – 16.95] mm2.
Conclusions:
In this study group, capsulorhexis area contracted by mean of 2.92 mm2. Anterior capsule opening diameter reduced by mean of 0.31 mm or 6.5% in 1 month.
