Abstract Details
Purpose:
To present our experience in performing intrascleral haptic fixation techniques in patients with aphakia or (sub-)luxated IOL.
Setting:
Department of Ophthalmology, Cantonal Hospital Aarau, Aarau, Aargau, Switzerland
Methods:
We present 6 patients to whom we performed scleral fixation of a 3-piece standard IOL with either PMMA or PVD haptics. The surgical technique used on all 6 eyes was the one described from Yamane et al. The hypodermic needles we initially chose were 27G whereas later we switched to the originally described 30G thin walled needles.
Results:
Patients’ ages were from 25 to 92 years old. The visual acuity after surgery improved in all patients. The complications we noticed were high intraocular pressure and iris capture. There were no cases with postoperative retinal detachment, hyphema, endophthalmitis, cystoid macular oedema or IOL dislocation.
Conclusions:
The Yamane technique is a very efficient, safe and atraumatic way to handle Patients with aphakia (sub-)luxated IOLs.
