Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the visual outcomes of patients undergoing routine phacoemulsification and in-the-bag implant of the Multifocal Intraocular lens Medicontur Libert7 677PMY®.
Setting:
Asociación para evitar la Ceguera en México, Hospital “Dr. Luis Sánchez Bulnes”.
Methods:
A total of 44 cataract patients (88 eyes), older than 40 years, will be included in this longitudinal, prospective, experimental and descriptive study. Uncorrected distance (UDVA), near (UNVA) and intermediate (UIVA) visual acuity expressed in logMar, in addition to contrast sensitivity, will be evaluated at baseline and the three months follow-up visit, whereas the defocus curve, will be assessed at one and three months. For comparison of continuous variables, a paired t-test and Wilcoxon test will be employed, also, the ANOVA and Friedman tests will be used to evaluate repeated measurements.
Results:
The expectation of the study is that a visual acuity of 0.2 LogMar, or less, will be achived in UDVA, UIVA, and UNVA. At the present moment, ten patients have gone through phacoemulsification and implant of the Multifocal Intraocular lens, with preliminary results supported as mean and standard deviation at the first month of postoperative, as follow: UDVA (logMAR) 0.15 ± 0.12, UIVA (logMAR) 0.17 ± 0.17, UNVA (logMAR) 0.13 ± 0.16. The rest of the results are to be determined in the following months.
