Abstract Details

Setting:
Pediatric ophthalmology department; August 20th,1953 hospital ,
Ibn Rochd University Hospital Center ,
Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy ,
Hassan II University Casablanca(Morocco)
Methods:
This is a retrospective chart review spread over 1 year and 6 months from January 2018 to June 2019 ; covering 88 children operated in the pediatric ophthalmology department of the August 20th 1953 hospital .
Results:
A total of 126 eyes of 88 patients underwent surgery. The mean age of the patients was 1 years 5 months. There is no difference in the prevalence based on gender or laterality.
All patients underwent manual small incision cataract surgery (MSICS) . Anterior vitrectomy was done in all the cases. Intraocular lens implantation was performed in 90,5 % eyes.
All patients had a preoperative preparation, subconjunctival use of methylprednisolone and the standard regimen of topical prednisolone in the postoperative period.
The occurrence of post-operative inflammation in our experience was 25,4%.
Conclusions:
For a better prognosis in congenital cataract surgery, it is essential to properly control post-operative inflammation by managing its factors of occurrence.
