Abstract Details
Purpose:
We report an atypical presentation of lamellar
cataract characterized by firstly its presence in an adult, and secondly its unilaterality.
Setting:
Ophthalmological Departement, Med V military hospital, Rabat.
Methods:
It is a case report of unilateral lamellar cataract discovered accidentally in an adult.
Results:
A 24-year-old woman with no personal or familiar medical history presented for dry eye syndrome signs. In the ophthalmological examination, the best visual acuity at the Snellen chart was 10/10 OD and 10/10 OS. Slit-lamp examination revealed on the left eye partial lamellar cataract not occluding the visual axis with normal intraocular pressure and fundus examination. On the right eye, slit lamp examination was within normal limits. The patient had no personal history of maternal infection, trauma neither a familiar history of cataract.
Conclusions:
Lamellar or zonular cataract is a hereditary affection transmitted in an autosomal dominant mode. This type of cataract is usually bilateral, asymmetric and discovered in children. Throughout our presentation, we report a rare case of asymptomatic partial lamellar unilateral cataract in an adult.
