Abstract Details
Purpose:
To assess refractive outcomes as an eye unit with using Tecnis PCB00 compared to National Standards set by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (RCOphth)
Setting:
Eye Department at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust
Methods:
Retrospective data analysis using Medisoft Electronic Medical Records (EMR) of all patients who underwent cataract surgery with Tecnis PCB00 IOL implantation. The postoperative refractive outcomes were compared with the Royal College of Ophthalmologists guidelines of a benchmark standard of 85%of individuals achieving a final spherical equivalent within 1.00 Dioptre of the predicted refraction and 55% of individuals within 0.50 Dioptre
Results:
From December 2010 to July 2019, 1242 eyes underwent cataract surgery with Tecnis PCB00 IOL implantation. Of those, 844 (67.95%) achieved final spherical equivalent within +/- 0.50 Dioptre and 1059 eyes (93.32%) achieved final spherical equivalent within +/- 1.00 Dioptre. The Total Mean Deviation was 0.04 and Total Mean Absolute Deviation 0.43.
Conclusions:
Post-operative refractive outcomes following cataract surgery in our department showed compliance with the National Standards. IOL constant optimisation is an option to achieve better refractive outcomes.
