Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate the safety and accuracy of topography-guided femtosecond laser astigmatic keratotomy in the treatment of myopic astigmatism

Setting:

Department of Ophthalmology, Daping Hospital, Research Institute of Surgery, Third Military Medical University

Methods:

The study comprised 10 eyes of five patients with myopic astigmatism (-1.50D to -5.00D), and their corneal thickness ranged from 525 to 568Âµm. The treatment was delivered with WaveLight FS200 femtosecond laser (Alcon Laboratories, Inc.). Astigmatic keratotomy design: Under the guidance of topography, two arc incisions were performed on the cornea: depth as 90% of the cornea, length ranging from 4.5 to 7.0mm, distance to central cornea ranging from 3.25 to 4mm

Results:

Femtosecond laser astigmatic keratotomy corrections were successfully achieved on 10 eyes. Minor corneal penetration was found in one eye, and corneal contact lens was applied. Corneal astigmatism of all eyes was reducedat postoperative1 day. The highest correction was -3.75D, while the maximum astigmatism axis deviation was within 15 degree. Compared with that at postoperative 1 day, the regression of astigmatic correction was -0.63D at postoperative 3 months. There was no significant change between preoperative and postoperative best corrected visual acuity (BCVA). However, an increase was observed in the total three order aberration

Conclusions:

The topography guided femtosecond laser astigmatic keratotomy provided safe, effective and predictable refractive outcomes
