Abstract Details

Purpose:

To determine the safety, efficacy, refractive outcomes and predictability of single step transepithelial photorefractive keratectomy with Smart Pulse Technology (SPT) using an aberration neutral profile centered at the corneal vertex with asymmetric offset in Myopia/Astigmatism.

Setting:

Muscat Eye Laser Center, Muscat, Sultanate of Oman.

Methods:

This Prospective study included 170 eyes of patients with a mean age of 27 years with Myopia/Astigmatism who underwent TransPRK SPT performed by two surgeons with the AMARIS 1050RS (SCHWIND eye-tech-solutions, Kleinostheim, Germany) using smart pulse technology and an aberration neutral profile centered at the corneal vertex with asymmetric offset, optical zones between 6 to 7,5 mm. Follow-up was performed pre-operative and post-operative evaluation at 1d, 1m, 3m, 6m, 1y including; UDVA, CDVA, refraction, keratometry and Scheimpflug imaging (Sirius, CSO Inc.).

Results:

170 eyes were included, Mean preoperative spherical equivalent (SE) -3.45D, Mean postoperative SE was -0.06D, with 99% of the eyes within 0.5D of the target. Significant improvement (p<0.05) on Sphere, Cylinder, SE, UDVA and CDVA. CDVA improved in 44% of eyes. 0% of eyes lost 1 or more lines of CDVA.

Conclusions:

Single step TransPRK with Smart Pulse Technology for Myopia / Astigmatism using an aberration neutral profile centered at the corneal vertex with asymmetric offset yielded excellent visual outcomes.
