Purpose:
To present a case of traumatic epithelium abruption in postLASEK cornea.
Setting:
Kyiv Eye Microsurgery Center, Kyiv, Ukraine
Methods:
We report a case of epithelial abruption occurred in 39-year-old male after mechanical injury of cornea 2 weeks after LASEK.Procedure and recovery was uneventful.Patient had standard medications (antibiotic and steroid after epithelial healing). On follow-up after 2 weeks patient reported pain and blurred vision in his left eye occurred after non-penetrating injury with foreign body removal. Slit lamp exam showed epithelial cyst in optical zone.
Results:
Detached epithelium was removed and cornea was covered with bandage SCL. After 1 month of LASEK standard medication the epithelium as well as its surface appeared normal without any complains of blurry vision. 3 month later the patient was delighted with the outcome and UCVA 20/20 in both eyes.
Conclusions:
Removing of detached epithelium is safe and effective in case of mechanical injury of epithelium with cyst formation after LASEK procedure.
