Severe pigment dispersion after iris-claw phakic intraocular lens implantation

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To describe a severe pigment dispersion that presented after Artisan�â�„�¢ phakic iris-claw intraocular lens implantation, requiring lens explantation.

Setting:

Centro Oftalmol�Ã�³gico Virgilio Galvis, Floridablanca, Colombia.

Methods:

Case report.

Results:

A 23 year-old female patient presented three months after the implantation of an Artisan�â�„�¢ phakic intraocular lens with a severe depigmentation of the iris and peripheral anterior synechiae. Explantation of the intraocular lens, along with goniosynechialysis, was performed. Eleven months after the explantation appearance of the iris significantly improved. No loss of lines of vision occurred.

Conclusions:

Pigment dispersion syndrome after the implantation of an Artisan�â�„�¢ phakic intraocular lens may happen and require explantation of the lens. Iris depigmentation improves with time.
