Abstract Details
Purpose:
To present and analyze results of toric intraocular lens (IOL) implantations in patients with corneal astigmatism in refractive surgery.
Setting:
Ophthalmology Department, Kharkov Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education, Ukraine; Kharkiv City Clinical Hospital  14 named after prof. L.L. Girshman, Ukraine;
Methods:
108 eyes of 96 patients aged from 30 to 55 years with visual acuity from 0.1 to 0.4 and corneal astigmatism from 1.0 to 6.0D had toric IOL implantations. Preoperative examination was standard, including the calculation of the IOL with the Verion system. We used Toric Acrysof (Alcon) IOLs from T2 to T9. Protocol of operations was standard.
Results:
Operations and postoperative period proceeded without complications. Visual acuity was from 0.74 Â± 0.26. Keratometry after surgery has not changed, refractometry - emmetropia with astigmatism from 0.05 to 0.5 D. For patients with high myopia we calculated refraction -2.0D. Two years data showed stable results in all cases.
Conclusions:
Implantation of the Toric Acrysof IOL is an effective method of corneal astigmatism correction which significantly improves visual acuity and quality of the patient's vision.
