Abstract Details
Purpose:
Higher as well as lower order aberrations are influencing uncorrected visual quality after successful cataract surgery. Different techniques are in use for measuring ocular wavefront aberrations, such as Hartmann Shack aberrometers, laser ray tracing aberrometers and automatic retinoscopy. Aim of our study was to assess the repeatability of a Hartmann Shack aberrometer in a pseudophakic study population.
Setting:
Vienna Institute for Research in Ocular Surgery, A Karl-Landsteiner-Institute, Hanusch Hospital, Vienna, Austria.
Methods:
This prospective study included patients who underwent cataract surgery one month prior to recruitment. Three consecutive Hartmann Shack measurements (WASCA, Carl Zeiss Meditec AG, Germany) were performed after pharmacological dilation of the pupil.
Results:
In total, 187 eyes of 187 patients were included, 78 right eyes and 109 left eyes. Repeatability of measurements was good in pseudophakic eyes for all Zernike polynomials up to the fourth order (mean SD 0,038 0,12 of three independent measurements).
Conclusions:
Hartmann Shack aberrometry (WASCA, Carl Zeiss Meditec, Germany) shows good repeatability of consecutive measurements in pseudophakic eyes one to three months after cataract surgery.
