Abstract Details

Purpose:

To assess the functional vision and efficacy of ERV Toric Lenses in a single surgeon consecutive cohort of lens exchange surgery patients.

Setting:

Private Practive

Methods:

10 consecutive patients undergoing lens exchange surgery with preoperative corneal astigmatism of 1.0D or more were operated on using the Tecnis Symfony Toric Lens. amanual markerless system was used to identify the steep meridian. 6-8 weeks after surgery functional vision assessment using the PANFOCAL VA system, IOL alignment and postoperative refractive astigmatism were assessed.

Results:

Preoperative corneal astigmatism was 2.07D @176 (sd1.135). All lenses were aligned with 10 degrees of intended alignment. Postoperative refractive astigmatism was less than: 0.25D in 28%, 0.5D in 71.4% and 1D in 86% of eyes with a mean of 0.46 D (sd0.393). Median Monocular uncorrected Visual Acuity was 6/9 or better for distance, intermediate and near in photopic conditions and 6/12 for near in mesopic conditions. Successful Monocular objective task performance was demonstrated for intermediate and photopic near vision tasks. No eyes required a secondary rotation of the lens.

Conclusions:

ERV Toric lenses provide an stable, effective, safe and predictable modality for the correction of astigmatism in patients undergoing lens exchange surgery.
