Comparison of visual outcomes after cataract surgery with implantation of two different trifocal intraocular lenses

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To compare the visual and refractive outcomes after cataract surgery with bilateral implantation of two different trifocal intraocular lenses (IOL)

Setting:

Bati Goz Hospital, Istanbul, Turkey

Methods:

Hundred eyes of 50 patients referred for phacoemulsification and IOL implantation were included in this study. Group 1, including 22 patients with 44 eyes implanted with the AT LISA tri 839 MP (Carl Zeiss Meditec), and group 2, including 28 patients with 56 eyes implanted with the Acriva Reviol Tri-ED (VSY Biotechnology). Analysis of binocular uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), uncorrected intermediate visual acuity (UIVA), uncorrected near visual acuity (UNVA), spherical equivalent (SE) refraction, defocus curves under photopic (85 cd/m2) conditions , and contrast sensitivity were performed during a 6-month follow-up period. A validated visual quality questionnaire was also completed.

Results:

No statistically significant differences between groups were found in postoperative UDVA, UIVA, UNVA, and SE. Binocular defocus curves were also similar. There were no significant differences in contrast sensitivity between groups, dysphotopic phenomena was slighlty higher in group 1.

Conclusions:

Both IOLs provided excellent distance, intermediate, and near visual outcomes. Predictability of the refractive results and optical performance were excellent, and all patients achieved spectacle independence.
