Abstract Details
Purpose:
To compare visual outcomes after implantation of rotational asymmetric refractive Lentis comfort MF 15 (group 1) and Lentis M plus MF 30 (group 2) intraocular lenses.
Setting:
Universal Eye Center, Zhong-Li, Taiwan.
Methods:
Patients between 31 and 87 years of age who received monocular cataract surgery with rotational asymmetric refractive intraocular lens implantation were analyzed. Patients were evaluated between Nov. 2015 and Feb. 2017 for preoperative uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), postoperative UDVA and postoperative uncorrected near visual acuity (UNVA).
Results:
318 eyes of 173 patients were enrolled into this retrospective study. Group 1 comprised 78 eyes and group 2 contained 239 eyes. Both groups had a statistically significant improvement in preoperative and postoperative UDVA. The mean monocular UDVA changed from 0.49 logMAR ± 0.29 (SD) preoperatively to 0.05 logMAR ± 0.08 postoperatively (P=0.033) in Group 1. The mean monocular UDVA changed from 0.48 logMAR ± 0.28 (SD) preoperatively to 0.06 logMAR ± 0.10 postoperatively (P=0.019) in Group 2. UNVA was 79% achieving J4 or better in Group 1, and 95% achieving J4 or better in Group 2.
Conclusions:
Inferior sector-shaped, near-addition IOLs with lower add powers (+1.5 D) provide good vision over longer working distances. In cases of micromonovision, MF15 can give very good unaided distance, near visual acuity and also deeper focus depth. This low add IOLs will be useful to various plan of cataract surgery improving surgical outcomes and patient’s satisfaction.
