Abstract Details

Purpose:

To compare the clinical results of Lentis Comfort (LS-313 MF15, Oculentis, Berlin, Germany, +1.5 diopter, group1) and Lentis M plus (LS-313 MF30, Oculentis, Berlin, Germany, +3.0 diopter, group 2) intraocular lens implantation in patients with unilateral cataract surgery.

Setting:

Asan Medical Center, Seoul, South Korea

Methods:

55 patients (55 eyes) aged 49 to 76 years who underwent unilateral cataract surgery without complications were included. Near, intermediate, long distance visual acuity and contrast sensitivity were measured before, 1 and 5 months after the surgery. Patient satisfaction was analyzed using the questionnaire 5 months postoperatively.

Results:

21 eyes in group 1 and 34 eyes in group 2 were included in the study. Both groups showed a significant improvement in postoperative uncorrected visual acuity and best corrected visual acuity (p<0.01). The mean near visual acuity (40cm) was significantly better in group 2 (1 month postoperatively: p=0.013, 5 months postoperatively: p=0.051). The mean intermediate visual acuity (70cm) was significantly better in group 1 (1 month postoperatively: p=0.060, 5 months postoperatively: p=0.044). The contrast sensitivity was not significantly different between the two groups. Glare (p=0.044) and halo (p=0.029) were significantly lower in group 1.

Conclusions:

A rotationally asymmetric refractive mutifocal intraocular lens with a lower refractive power (1.5 diopter) showed a good visual acuity at a long and intermediate distance, relatively little light glare and halo symptoms than the lens with a high refractive power (3.0 diopters).
