Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the clinical outcomes after the implantation of a new trifocal diffractive intraocular lens (IOL)
Setting:
Bati Goz Hospital, Istanbul, Turkey
Methods:
This was a prospective study enrolling 44 eyes of 22 patients undergoing cataract surgery with implantation of trifocal AcrySof® PanOptixTM. Uncorrected and corrected distance visual acuity (UDVA, CDVA), uncorrected and corrected intermediate visual acuity (UIVA, CIVA), uncorrected and corrected near visual acuity (UNVA, CNVA), keratometry (K), and manifest refraction spherical equivalent (MRSE) were evaluated pre- and postoperatively. Defocus curves and contrast sensitivity under photopic conditions were also estimated.
Results:
A significant improvement was observed in uncorrected distance, intermediate, and near visual acuity (P ≤ .01). Postoperative MRSE was ranged from -0.75 to 0.75 diopters. The defocus curve confirmed good visual acuity also in the intermediate distance. Contrast sensitivity was improved significantly. All patients were satisfied with their vision and independent of spectacles.
Conclusions:
The new trifocal IOL provides effective visual performance for far, intermediate, and near distances with a high level of patient satisfaction.
