Abstract Details
Purpose:
- to show extended vision (uncorrected far vision and uncorrected intermediate vision)- to investigate contrast sensitivity photopic and scotopic for far and intermediate vision- to evaluate needed reading ADD power
Setting:
Centro Europeo di Oftalmologia, Catania
Methods:
Patients underwent bilateral cataract surgery with implantation of an aspheric, asymmetric MIOL with .5 D near addition.A complete ophthalmological examination was performed preoperatively and 3 months postoperatively. The main outcome measures were post-op: uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), uncorrected intermediate visual acuity (UIVA), distance corrected intermediate visual acuity (DCIVA), corrected near visual acuity (CNVA), near add power, contrast sensitivity photopic and scotopic for far and intermediate vision.
Results:
â¢ Significant increased from pre-op best corrected distance visual acuity ( logMAR 0,31 Â± 0,28) to post-op UDVA (logMAR -0,02 Â± 0,08): IOL safety, low p value (4*10-6) â¢ High post-op UIVA ( logMAR 0,04 Â± 0,06: depth of focus from ADD power 1.5 D), similar to UDVA (logMAR -0,02 Â± 0,08); p value 0,18â¢ Needed ADD power for reading only D for 0 logRAD line.â¢ High contrast sensitivity for far photopic (9,12 Â± 3,18)% and scotopic (9,43 Â± 3,19)% vision and for intermediate photopic (8,55 Â± 3,28)% and scotopic intermediate vision (8,58 Â± 3,21)%.
Conclusions:
â¢ Safe and effective like monofocal IOL for far visionâ¢ Good contrast sensitivityâ¢ Very good post-op uncorrected far and intermediate visionâ¢ Only low add reading glasses D needed for close distancesâ¢ No glasses needed for far and intermediate visionâ¢ No progressive glasses / varifocal glasses needed
