Abstract Details
Purpose:
The aim of this study is to analyze if there is any improvement in near visual acuity and vision quality with a novel topical therapy (Pilocarpine 0.247%, Phenylephrine 0.78%, Nepafenac 0.023%, Pheniramine 0.034%, Naphazoline 0.003% and Polyethylenglycol 0.09%) in patients that are not pleased with their refractive surgery result.
Setting:
Vissum Alicante, Spain
Methods:
This is an interventional prospective study, 16 eyes of 8 patients who had previous refractive surgery (PresbyLASIK, HP LASIK, Intracorneal inlays, Multifocal IOL) were included; they were given one drop of the new therapy every 8 hours. The main outcomes measures included: uncorrected, corrected distance visual acuity and best corrected far-near visual acuity, were assessed prior to the administration of the eye drop and 2 weeks post-administration. Also, patients answered a satisfaction survey.
Results:
87.5% of the patients gained 1 line of binocular near vision, 37.5% gained two lines of near vision, best corrected distance visual acuity remain 1.0 (decimal) in all patients. 25% of the patients complained of mild headaches, and it was relieved with an oral NSAID, there wasnt any ocular side effect of the installation of the eye drop. 100% of the patients will recommend the treatment to others, and all of them were satisfied with their visual outcome after using the topical therapy. No case reported complications.
Conclusions:
Patients were satisfied with their vision outcome.Treatment with FOVtears as a rescue treatment for patients unsatisfied with their outcomes after corneal refractive surgery offers a new alternative in refractive surgery participative management of non-satisfied patients.
