Abstract Details
Purpose:
To report the case of symptomatic peripheral iridotomy suture following phakic intraocular lens (PIOL) implantation in a myopic eye
Setting:
University Eye Clinic of Trieste, Italy
Methods:
A 45-year-old female complained of glare and photophobia after iris-fixated phakic intraocular lens implantation (IFPIOL) in her left eye. The patient underwent prophylactic laser peripheral iridotomies (LPI) 2 days before surgery. The uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA) was 20/20 and intraocular pressure (IOP) was 14 mmHg. The slit-lamp examination showed a well-centered IFPIOL and two LPIs at 10 and 2 oclock partially covered by the upper lid. After 20 days, as symptoms persisted and were intolerable to the patient, we decide to suture iridotomies using a modified Siepser slip-knot technique
Results:
After surgery, visual acuity remains 20/20 and patient reported a complete disappearance of symptoms. No intra and postoperative complications were noted
Conclusions:
Experiencing glare and photophobia is a rare side effect due to LPI after PIOL implantation. To overcome this complication, the suture of iridotomy using a modified Siepser slip-knot technique can be considered a safe and effective procedure
