Abstract Details

Purpose:

To study the safety, effectiveness and predictability of incision creation with femtosecond laser ( LenSx, Alcon) in EVO-ICL implantation.

Setting:

Department of Ophthalmology, Shanghai Xinshijie Eye Hospital, Shanghai, China

Methods:

Main incision and assisted incision were created with femtosecond laser ( LenSx, Alcon). EVO-ICL was implantated as routine procedure. The study involved 50 patients (98 eyes) with myopia with or without astigmatism (spherical equivalent between -6.0 and -20.0 diopters). The mean patient age was 29.2 years. Followed-up examinations were scheduled for 1 day, 1 week, 1 and 3 months postoperatively.

Results:

The preoperative BSCVA ranged from 2/20 to 20/20. At 3 months, 3 eyes (3.1%) which were under-corrected attained postoperative UCVA 1 line lower than preoperative BSCVA. 95 eyes (96.9%) achieved postoperative UCVA better than or equal to preoperative BSCVA. The improvement in BSCVA ranged between 0 and 5 lines. The mean residual spheroequivalent was -0.33 Â± 0.96D.

Conclusions:

Incision creation with femtosecond laser for EVO-ICL implantation showed good safety, efficacy and predictability. Femtosecond laser might be a promising alternative method for incision creation in EVO-ICL implantation.
