Abstract Details

Purpose:

To report the 2-year refractive results and endothelial cell loss after iris-claw toric phakic intraocular lens (IOL) implantation to correct high astigmatism following deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK)

Setting:

Augencentrum Koeln, Cologne, Germany

Methods:

2 eyes of 2 patients underwent implantation of iris-claw toric phakic IOL (Ophtec BV, Groningen, the Netherlands). Outcome measures included the uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), endothelial cell loss and complications

Results:

Patients were followed up for 2 years postoperatively. The first eye achieved an UCVA and a CDVA of 0.1 LogMAR both, refraction was �â�ˆ�’1.00 D cylinder and the endothelial cell loss was 10.9%. The second eye achieved an UCVA of 0 LogMAR, a CDVA of -0.1 LogMAR, refraction was �.5, -1.50x70 and the endothelial cell loss was 5.9%. No complications occurred

Conclusions:

Implantation of iris-claw toric phakic IOL offers good outcomes in carefully selected cases of previous DALK with high astigmatism. long-term follow-up is needed to determine the rate of endothelial cell loss
