Abstract Details
Purpose:
To introduce a simple technique of conjunctival cystectomy assisted by high-frequency radio-wave electrosurgery.
Setting:
Kangwon National University Hospital
Methods:
Case report and literature review
Results:
A 76-year-old Asian woman presented with a conjunctival cyst in the right eye. Slit-lamp examination revealed a 4 x 15 mm sized freely movable conjunctival cyst. Conjunctival opening with a diameter of 1mm was made with using high-frequency radiowave electro-surgery (Ellman Surgitron; Ellman International, Inc.,Hewlett, NY) in cut mode. The cyst was then extracted using a non-toothed forceps through the opening without rupture. Conjunctival wound healed in 1 week without any complication. No recurrence was found over the 6-month follow-up period.
Conclusions:
Conjunctival cystectomy with the adjunctive use of high-frequency radio-wave electrosurgery can be an effective and safe treatment method.
