Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the choroidal thickness(CT) in thyroid ophthalmopathy(TO) by spectral domain optical coherance tomography ( SD-OCT).
Setting:
Department of Ophthalmology, Bulent Ecevit University Faculty of Medicine, Zonguldak, Turkey
Methods:
Forty eyes of 20 TO patients (11 female, 9 male) and 40 healthy subjects were enrolled in this study. Clinical activity score (CAS) was used to determine the activity of TO. CT was measured vertically from fovea center and 1.500 μm and 3.000 μm temporal and nasal regions of fovea by SD-OCT. The outcomes were compared between the two groups.
Results:
There were no statistically significant differences in age, gender, central macular thickness and macular thickness of the groups (p>0.05). The mean CT of thyroid ophthalmopathy group was 314.4±75.2 µm and the mean CT of control group was 376.4±84.5 µm. A statistically significant difference was found betwwen the groups (p<0.05). CT was not found in a relation with CAS (p>0.05).
Conclusions:
CT of TO patients were found statistically significant when we compared their outcomes with the outcomes of healthy individuals.
