Purpose:
To evaluate 100 Successful Surgery results of Refractive Lenticule Extraction (ReLEx) as Small Incision Lenticule Extraction (SMILE) technique for treatment of myopia and myopic astigmatism.
Setting:
JAKARTA EYE CENTER,Jakarta, Indonesia
Methods:
In August 2016 January 2017 the first 119 eyes were treated using small incision lenticule extraction surgical technique (SMILE), where a refractive lenticule of intrastromal corneal tissue is removed though a small incision completely eliminating flap-cutting. Uncorrected distance visual acuity and corrected distance visual acuity we were measured 1 day, 1 week and 1 month PO, and evaluation of the interface and corneal surface by slit-lamp examination were documented. Late side effects like corneal scars, corneal ectasia, persistent dry eye symptoms or cataract were documented.
Results:
5 months postoperatively, no significant change to the 3-month data was found. 1 day PO: <0.5=100%; 0.6-0.7=94.96%; 0.8-0.9=92.44%; 1.0=86.55%, 1 week PO: <0.5=100%; 0.6-0.7=97.48%; 0.8-0.9=92.44%; 1.0=89.08%; 1 month PO: <0.5=100%; 0.6-0.7=98.70%; 0.8-0.9=92.21%; 1.0=90.91%. There are No Corneal scars, Corneal ectasia and cataract. Dry eyes symtoms average 1-2 weeks after surgery
Conclusions:
This first 100 surgeries study demonstrates SMILE to be an effective, stable and safe procedure for treatment of myopia and myopic astigmatism.
