The remote results of excimer laser surgery preceded by application of orthokeratological lenses

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To analyze the remote results of laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) in patients who had applied orthokeratological contact lenses.

Setting:

The study was carried out in S. Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery Federal State Institution, Volgograd branch.

Methods:

There was undertaken a comparative analysis of surgical outcomes in two groups of patients. The first group comprises 40 LASIK procedures preceded by application of orthokeratological lenses, the second one included 46 surgeries in patients with a history of spectacle correction only.

Results:

No complications of the intraoperative, immediate and remote postoperative periods were observed in either group. Stability of refraction was documented in both groups within the whole follow-up period.

Conclusions:

Corneal changes in patients having worn orthokeratological lenses are of transitory nature and do not compromise LASIK results, which enables achieving high visual function and stable refraction in remote postoperative period.
