Purpose:
We perform a retrospective no comparative study to analyse the astigmatic effectiveness with transepithelial photorefractive keratectomy (TransPRK) technique using small pulse technology (SPT) with static and dynamic cyclotorsion.
Setting:
Aurelios Augenzentrum Recklinghausen Germany
Methods:
TransPRK was performed with the AMARIS 1050 Hz laser system (SCHWIND eye-tech solutions, Kleinostheim, Germany), using an aspheric profile. We revised the refractive outcome of 500 consecutive myopic eyes after 4 months. From that group of eyes we analysed eyes with 2 or more diopters (D) of astigmatism (42 eyes). We used the subjective refraction and the postoperative topography after 4 months.
Results:
The mean treated cylinder was 2.9 D with a range till 5.25 D. After 4 months the postoperative mean cylinder was 0.4D with a range till 1.0D. In terms of safety no eye loss more than1 line of Snellen acuity. 79% of the eyes had a postoperative cylinder of 0.5D or less, 93% of 0.75D or less and 100% of 1 D or less. The axis error of the surgically induced cylinder vector was under 5 degrees in 79% of the cases and under 15 degrees in 100% oft he cases.
Conclusions:
The TransPRK with SPT was effective and safe for myopic astigmatismsm.
