Visual disturbance prediction in candidates for myopic FemtoLASIK

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To develop a multivariate mathematical model for prediction of vision quality impairment after myopic femtoLASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis with femtosecond laser-assisted flap formation) with standard aspheric (SA) and wavefornt-guided (WFG) ablation protocol.

Setting:

Belarussian state medical academy of postgraduate education, Republican ophthalmic center, 10-th Minsk city hospital

Methods:

Data of 151 patients (302 eyes) with myopia and myopic astigmatism that undergone femtoLASIK procedure (101 �â�€�“ SA, 50 �â�€�“ WFG) was analyzed. Data included full ophthalmic anamnesis with complaints on vision quality disturbances not connected with visual acuity, UCVA and BSCVA measurement and aberrometry before and 6 months after the operation. Prediction of vision disturbance presence was performed by the method of logistic regression based on preoperative data and multivariate analysis with backward variables selection. Prognostic nomogram was developed for the model use convenience. Nomogram precision was evaluated by concordance index (receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve) and calibration plot.

Results:

Seven parameters were included in the resulting model after mono- and multivariate analysis. Predictive accuracy of the model amounted to 75,7% and the probability of vision quality impairment could be represented by the nomogram in the range of 0,05% �â�€�“ 99,0%.

Conclusions:

The developed multivariate mathematical model with graphical nomogram can improve the communication between doctor and his patient on preoperative stage by predicting visiual disturbance presence after myopic SA and WFG femtoLASIK
